Chenrezig Practice

The recitation for the meditation of Great Compassionate One called:

SANG  GYE  CHHO  DANG  TSHOG  KYI  CHHOG  NAM  LA

To the Buddha, the Dharma and the sublime assembly,

JANG  CHHUB  BAR  DU  DAG  NY  KYAB  SU  CHHI

I take refuge until I have accomplished the enlightened state.

DAG  GI  JIN  SOG  GYII  PEI  SO  NAM  KYII

By the merit of accomplishing the six perfects,

DRO  LA  PHEN  CHHIR  SANG  GYE  DRUB  PAR  SHOG

Accomplish enlightenment for the benefit of beings.

(repeat 3 times)

DAG  SOG  KHA  KHYAB  SEM  CHEN  GYI

On the crown of the head of myself and all beings,

CHI  TSUG  PE  KAR  DHA  WEI  TENG

On a lotus a moon disc with syllable HRI.

HRI  LE  PHAG  CHHOG  CHEN  RE  ZIG

Chenrezig arises from this.

KAR  SAL  O  ZER  NGA  DEN  TRO

He radiates clear white light.

ZE  ZUM  THUG  JEI  CHEN  GYII  ZIG

He gazes with compassionate eyes and loving smile.

CHHAG  ZHI  DANG  PO  THAL  JAR  ZED

He has four arms: the first two are folded in prayer.

OG  NYI  SHEL  TRENG  PED  KAR  NAM

The lower two hold a crystal rosary and white lotus.

DAR  DANG  RIN  CHHEN  GYEN  GYII  TRE

He is arrayed in silks and jewels.

RI  DAG  PAG  PEI  TOD  YOG  SOL

He wears an upper robe of antelope skin.

O  PAG  MED  PEI  U  GYEN  CHEN

His head ornament is Amitabha, Buddha of Boundless Light.

ZHAB  NYII  DO  JEI  KYI  TRUNG  ZHUG

His two feet are in the vajra posture.

DRI  MED  DA  WAR  GYAB  TEN  PA

A stainless moon is His backrest.

KYAB  NE  KUN  DU  NGO  WOR  GYUR

He is the essence of all those in whom we take refuge

Make the following prayer, thinking that all beings are making it with you as if in a single voice:

JO  WO,  KYON  GYI  MA  GO  KU  DOG  KAR

Lord, not veiled by any fault, white in colour,

DZOG  SANG  GYE  KYII  U  LA  GYEN

Whose head a perfect Buddha crowns in light,

THUG  JE  CHEN  GYII  DRO  LA  ZIG

Gazing compassionately on all beings,

CHEN  RE  ZIG  LA  CHHAG  TSHAL  LO

To You, Chenrezig, All-seeing One, I prostrate.

(repeat as many times as you wish)

DE  TAR  TSE  CHIG  SOL  TAB  PE

By having prayed like this one pointedly,

PHAG  PEI  KU  LE  O  ZER  TRO

Light shining from the holy form

MA  DAG  LE  NANG  TRUL  SHE  JHANG

Removes all impure karma and bewilderment.

CHI  NO  DE  WA  CHEN  GYI  ZHING

The outer realm becomes the realm of bliss.

NANG  CHU  KYE  DRO  LU  NGAG  SEM

The body, speech, and mind of beings within it

CHEN  RE  ZIG  WANG  KU  SUNG  THUG

Become the body, speech and mind of Chenrezig.

NANG  DRAG  RIG  TONG  YER  MED  GYUR

All knowledge, sound and all appearances become inseparable from emptiness.

Meditate like this as you recite the mantra:

Finally, let the mind remains absorbed in its own essence, without distinction between subject, object and act.

Then repeat:

DAG  ZHEN  LU  NANG  PHAG  PEI  KU

Everyone appears in the form of Chenrezig;

DRA  DRAG  YI  GE  DRUG  PEI  YANG

All sound is the sound of His mantra;

DREN  TOG  YE  SHE  CHEN  PO  LONG

Everything that arises in the mind is the great expanse of wisdom.

GE  WA  DI  YI  NYUR  DU  DAG

Through the virtue of this practice may I now quickly

CHEN  RE  ZIG  WANG  DRUB  GYUR  NE

Achieve the All-seeing One's great state.

DRO  WA  CHIG  KYANG  MA  LU  PA

And to this same state may I come to lead

DE  YI  SA  LA  GO  PAR  SHOG

Every being, not one left behind.
