Count our Blessings - by Gharwang Rinpoche

Sometimes I truly feel that we are inflicting pain on ourselves, since we tend to always compare ourselves by looking upwards rather than at the same or lower level.

Yes, it is true that we often wish to be better than most other people. However, each individual has unique abilities, which are not the same or equal. We have to try our best at whatever we do, but not at the expense of harming ourselves. If our comparing mind really wants to look at others, then we should sometimes look lower to those who are in great pain, and ask why we are suffering. These people can inspire us to be hopeful and build up our courage to fight the difficult world. Therefore, making our lives more meaningful and more beautiful is in our hands.
